We’re so glad you asked. The Pauper is a brand new web portal and network of information, tools, and resources for the artist and creative communities. r
The Pauper is the brainchild of three “starving artists”, all of whom were working in the financial planning industry and saw the desperate need for such services in the artist and creative communities. Originally started as an online newsletter in 2000, The Pauper has since grown to become the premiere website for helping artists with their money and finances.
Funded with little to no money whatsoever, the site has naturally gone through many growing pains to get to where we are. The fact that we’re still alive on the net, either means one of two things: 1) we’re in reality dead and our ghosts are walking around in cyberspace hacking away as if everything’s normal, or 2) The Supreme Being doesn’t really hate us, but has actually been testing us to see if we were truly committed. We think it’s the latter, but then one can never be too sure about these things nowadays.
Yes, it’s been a difficult ride, but it’s also been a lot of fun. At least one of us thinks so.
But we’re all very proud, and borderline hysterical, to be able to launch our new site, which has been germinating for approximately 50 years now in web-time and is, finally, officially, at long last, and beyond any shadow of a doubt, getting to see the light of day. Many of our exciting new features include a multi-channel directory of artist specific and general purpose resources, search engine capability, articles, news and information, financial and career planning tools, community forum, newsletter, and job resources. After years of scouring the web, we’ve managed to amass a large number of links and resources for the artist and creative communities. What we discovered was that, though there are a large number of helpful sites for artists, no one was putting it all in one place for easy access. So, we’ve created this site for you, the artist and creative, through toil and blood, to have everything at your fingertips. But don’t let the fact that we’ve martyred ourselves on the electronic cross convince you of the sheer sacrifice, we ask you to see for yourself. And if you don’t think it’s the best damn thing since sliced bread, then all of our work will have been done in vain. Just kidding… sort of…
Our goal has always been very simple: “To help all artists and creatives get the information they need to achieve success while pursuing a career in the new creative economy.” We also firmly believe that for artists to succeed in the 21st century, they not only have to be good at their craft, but be good business people too. As we like to say, “artists shouldn’t die paupers”! Actually, artists shouldn’t die at all, but live on immortally through their work. But not getting any financial reward while alive, really sucks!
Feel free to drop us a suggestion, or tell us what you think. We’re always on the look-out for new and exciting features to make this place the best it can be. In the meantime, we hope that you’ll find our little hub to the world useful.
Sincerely,
The Editors
